Audition Information

Toby’s Dinner Theatre is seeking non-equity actors for the 2022 productions of ROCKY and THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL

Rocky is a hard-hitting musical with music and lyrics by Tony® winners and Academy Award® nominees Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, and a book by multiple Tony winner Thomas Meehan, adapted from the acclaimed Oscar®-nominated screenplay by Sylvester Stallone.

The SpongeBob Musical is adapted from the iconic Nickelodeon series! SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy, Squidward and all of Bikini Bottom face total annihilation – until a most unexpected hero rises to take center stage.

AUDITION INFORMATION:

Open auditions will be held at 4:00pm on Monday, July 19th at Toby’s Dinner Theatre, 5900 Symphony Woods Road, Columbia, MD.

Please do not arrive before 3:30pm. Must sign in by 6pm. Please bring a headshot and resume, 16 bar vocal audition selection and any known rehearsal/performance conflicts to list on the audition sheet. You will sign in upon arrival and be given a return time depending on attendance.

ROCKY- REHEARSAL/PERFORMANCE INFORMATION:
Run dates: March 25, 2022 – June 5, 2022

Toby’s performs an 8 show per week schedule.

Tuesday – Sunday evenings with 12:30 matinees on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Rehearsals: Boxing classes/rehearsals will begin fall 2021 with a schedule that works for the entire team.   Full cast rehearsals begin January 2022 on Mondays from 5/6pm – 10:30pm, occasional Tuesdays from 5/6pm – 10:30pm and Saturdays from 10am – 3pm.

Some daytime/weekday rehearsals TBD.

THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL – REHEARSAL/PERFORMANCE INFORMATION:
Run dates: June 10, 2022 – August 28, 2022

Toby’s performs an 8 show per week schedule.

Tuesday – Sunday evenings with 12:30 matinees on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Rehearsals: Rehearsals will begin March 2022 on Mondays from 5/6pm – 10:30pm, occasional Tuesdays from 5/6pm – 10:30pm and Saturdays from 10am – 3pm.

ADDITIONAL INFO: Toby’s is looking for talent that can commit to the entire run and rehearsal process. Seeking actors over 18 years old. All roles are open and paid. Travel and housing are not provided. NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE

Character Breakdown ROCKY

Rocky Balboa:  By day, the self-dubbed “Italian Stallion” is a debt collector for a loan shark. Rocky is also an amateur boxer with dreams and determination. He aspires to have a shot at the heavyweight championship and a better life.
Vocal range: G#4 – Ab2

Apollo Creed: A Black/African-American championship fighter who is very confident. He is everyone’s favorite to win the heavyweight title and he knows it.
Vocal range: Bb2- G4

Adrian Pennino: A shy pet store clerk. Rocky’s love interest. Her life is overshadowed by her domineering older brother, Paulie.
Vocal range: G3-D5

Mickey Goldmill: Rocky’s trainer, a father figure to him. A former boxer himself, Mickey is passionate about boxing. Age: 50 to 80
Vocal range:  D3 – B3

Paulie Pennino: Adrian’s bullying older brother. He tries to use Adrian and Rocky as pawns to get what he wants

Spider Rico: A young, inept boxer with raw talent who nonetheless packs a punch

Ensemble – Roles include: Crowd, Referees, Reporters, Adrian’s girlfriends, Announcers, Street Singers, Apollo’s Girls, Boxers, etc…  an versatile group of performers who sing, dance and act to play numerous characters and understudy principal roles

Character Breakdown THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL

 SpongeBob SquarePants: Optimistic, innocent, and boyish; energetic and sometimes hyperactive. An extremely physical actor with strong, comedic skills. (Range: C3-B4)

Patrick Star: Well-intentioned but lacking common sense or skills; kind and somewhat clueless, innocent (Range: Bb2-Bb4)

Squidward Q. Tentacles: Grumpy, cynical, dry, short-tempered, generally negative but lovable nonetheless. Must move well and be a tap dancer. A strong baritone/baritenor, show-bizzy performer. (Range: A2-F#4)

Sandy Cheeks: A brainy and athletic Texan squirrel. She acts as SpongeBob’s most trusted ally on their quest to stop the volcano from erupting, using her vast amount of scientific knowledge. (Range: A3-E5)

Sheldon Plankton: His personality outweighs his size- slick, scheming, nefarious; has the ability to charm; determined, he will do anything to get ahead in life; very greedy, but his heart is still open (Range: B2-G#4)

Pearl Krabs: Mr. Krabs’ bratty teenage daughter. Pearl is a big personality withstrong comedic timing, a strong pop-rock belt. (Range Bb3 – F#5)

Eugene Crabs: The greedy owner of the Krusty Krab, and employer of SpongeBob and Squidward. A money-saving, money-grabbing restaurateur.   (Range: B2-Bb4)

 

Ensemble: a versatile group of strong singer, dancers and actors to play numerous roles including the Mayor, Patchy the Pirate, Karen, Skateboarders and numerous citizens of Bikini Bottom

Full time and part time work available. Looking for cooks, bussers, dishwashers, salad and dessert prep. Applicants should have the ability to work well with others, follow directions, work calmly and safely in tight quarters and have a respectful attitude.
