An American classic, Show Boat follows life aboard The Cotton Blossom, a Mississippi River show boat. This timeless musical spans generations, telling a powerful story of hope, freedom and love while celebrating the music of vaudeville, jazz and gospel with some of the most beautiful songs ever written including “Ol’ Man River,” “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man” and “Make Believe”.

Based on Edna Ferber’s best-selling novel, Show Boat with music by Jerome Kern and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II premiered in 1927. Awards for Broadway shows did not exist when this classic premiered but recent revivals across the world have continued to garner numerous awards and high praise from critics and audiences!

Russell Rinker returns to the Toby’s stage as Gaylord Ravenal after portraying Emile De Becque in 2016’s  production of South Pacific and Toby’s is thrilled to welcome Abby Middleton as Magnolia Hawks. The Show Boat cast features many Toby’s favorites and Helen Hayes nominees including Robert Biederman 125, Jane C. Boyle, Jeffrey Shankle, Elizabeth Rayca, Julia Lancione, Samantha Deininger and Marquis White as Joe who sings the classic song “Ol’ Man River.”

With multiple Helen Hayes Award nominations between them, the creative team for Show Boat includes Toby Orenstein and Mark Minnick (direction), Mark Minnick (choreography) and Ross Scott Rawlings (musical direction). Scenic and lighting design is by David Hopkins with sound design by Mark Smedley.
