Audition Information

THE BODYGUARD at Toby’s Dinner Theatre.
Production Dates : September 13, 2019 – November 3, 2019

Seeking male and female performers for the roles listed below for their 2019 production of THE BODYGUARD – The Musical based on the motion picture, featuring the song catalogue of Whitney Houston.

SEEKING:
RACHEL MARRON – (played by Whitney Houston in the motion picture) Rachel is a Grammy Award winning superstar and mother to a young boy named Fletcher. Her life is turned upside down when The Stalker appears in her life and The Bodyguard is hired to protect her but winds up becoming a romantic interest. Seeking a strong African American actress who moves well and can sing the Whitney catalogue. Union and Non-Union performers will be considered for this role.

MALE AND FEMALE ENSEMBLE DANCERS WHO SING: a diverse group of male and female performers with strong dance ability who sing well to make up the ensemble that portray Rachel’s backup dancers/singers, college students, security, etc… Some ensemble members may understudy principal roles. Non-Union performers for these positions.

AUDITION INFO:
Auditions will be held at Toby’s Dinner Theatre, 5900 symphony Woods Road, Columbia Maryland on Monday, March 25th.
3:30 pm – MALE/FEMALE DANCERS WHO SING: Arrive dressed to dance. Women in character shoes please.
5:00 pm – RACHEL MARRON: Please prepare 16-32 bars of two Whitney Houston selections. Callback will include cuts from Run to You, One Moment in Time, I Will Always Love you and I Wanna Dance with Somebody

REHEARSAL INFO:
Rehearsals begin early June and are held on Monday evenings (6- 10:30) and Saturdays (10am – 3pm). Some daytime rehearsals may occur for this production.
Performance Schedule: 8 shows per week. Tuesday thru Sunday nights with 12:30pm matinees on Wed and Sun.

Bring picture/resume stapled together and sheet music with your best 16 bars in the correct key.
Sign in starts at 3pm for Ensemble and 4:30 for Rachel.
Arrive with time to fill out an audition sheet.
If you are auditioning for Rachel but want Ensemble consideration, you should attend the 3:30 call.
You will need to list any rehearsal/performance conflicts on this sheet.
Toby’s does not provide travel or housing.
Remaining roles in THE BODYGUARD will be auditioned at a later date TBD.

ASSISTANT  STAGE  MANAGER

Location: Toby’s Dinner Theatre, Columbia MD.

Length of Contract: Negotiable

Hours: Part-Time (20-25 Hours a Week Average, More Hours During Tech Weeks, opportunity for full time work in near future)

Responsibilities Include:

-Set-Up/Running/Clean-Up of Mainstage Performances (4-6 Shows a Week)

-Delegation of Responsibilities to Crew Members, Communication to Actors, Supervision of Transition Out of Dinner Hour into Performance

-Sending of Performance Reports, Communication Between Departments of Performance Notes

-Basic Maintenance and Upkeep of Props/Scenery and Facility

-Flexibility in Schedule and Duties

-Attendance to Rehearsals for Next Show Prior to Tech Weeks

-Attendance to Tech (Crew Supervision, Scene Shift Execution, Documentation)

Must be comfortable with general stage management and other running responsibilities (conflict resolution, crew management, basic company management, house management duties).

RUNNING CREW

Location: Toby’s Dinner Theatre, Columbia MD.

-Set-Up/Running/Clean-Up of Mainstage Performances (4-6 Shows a Week)

-Communication to SM, Actors and House Management

-Assisting in Transition Out of Dinner Hour into Performance

-Basic Maintenance and Upkeep of Props/Scenery and Facility

-Flexibility in Schedule and Duties

-Attendance to a few Rehearsals for Next Show Prior to Tech Weeks

-Attendance to Tech (Assist with Load in and Load Out, Properties Set Up, Scene Shift Execution, Documentation, etc…)

Toby’s season includes 5 or 6 musical productions each season. Track being run for performances will be different each production- flexibility is key.  Track could include, but is not limited to, set up of props and set pieces, performing set changes in performance, quick change/dresser responsibilities, management of lobby/patrons during performance, tracking of properties, charging of batteries and other specialty set/prop pieces, acquisition/clean-up of perishable props, lifting of heavy set pieces, and other general run crew and crew chief duties. Being both a theatre in the round and a dinner theatre, applicants must be flexible and eager to learn in this rewarding, one-of-a-kind space.

Group Hosts

Part time work is available. Applicants should be detail oriented, assertive and patient. You will be responsible for greeting and seating groups of 15 or more people visiting the theatre.  This can include large student groups, senior citizen groups, tour and travel groups, church groups, etc. The group hosts greet the groups as they arrive, gives the welcome speech and explains to the group what they can expect during the evening and then escorting them to their assigned tables. Group hosts are also responsible for gathering information the emcee will need and filling out the group paperwork each evening.

Kitchen Staff

Full time and part time work available. Looking for cooks, bussers, dishwashers, salad and dessert prep. Applicants should have the ability to work well with others, follow directions, work calmly and safely in tight quarters and have a respectful attitude.
